  1. I don’t think the most interesting sorts of questions are those that aim at determining what something is or is not (i.e. photography). The sorts of issues the artist is involved with here (lighting, continuity, “reality”, and concept) overlap with those of the photographer. His concerns are their concerns. But this artist has his own questions to answer, or his own way of asking the questions photographers ask. I am not altogether sure that what he does IS photography or just involves it.

  2. Thank you sooooooo……. much, its really really, really awesome and good job.

  8. On one hand I’ve always loved this guys work. On the other hand, his repeated insults to the art of photography are really really irksome. “just being at the right place at the right time, anyone can do it” is complete nonsense. Two people, with the same camera gear, sitting right next to each other, will not get the same photograph. Skill and knowledge, knowing how to capture that image, at that second in time, with the lighting that exists, what settings to use, what to focus on. This maters.

  9. Hi there, are you familiar with “MagicSFXphoto” (search on Google for it)? There you can watch a smart free video explaining the right way to create fantastic pictures. This made it easier for Joe to create photographs which leave you with that jaw-dropping-effect when you take a look at them. I hope it will work for you as well.

  10. This Is Not Photography, This Is PhotoMANIPULATION, Maybe Anyone Can Be A Photographer, But Its A Process Of Learning The Skill Not Just Taking A Camera And Shooting A Random Photo. Photography Is About Capturing REAL Things In An Interesting Way.

  13. he’s not only a talented photography, but also a hot handsome young man :3

  14. I was doing this sort of stuff 10 years ago for fun. Many of my friends have done it also. How come only this guy gets on TED for it?

  15. Useless prick. Photographys about finding beauty in the world. Not making it. Its cool that he has an artistic idea but dont just go “anyone can do that”

  16. wow

  17. I dont like this guy

  18. Jerry is exactly whom I first thought of when I saw this picture. For all those who say that Digital is about “post editing” hate to break it to you but many of the greats did post work in the dark room to one degree or another. Take a photography history class and you will see what I mean.

  24. Omg, his works – they don’t look shopped, even though I looked hard at the pixels and have seen a few shops in my time

  25. Chimping is looking at the LCD screen after you have taken the photo.

  26. 9:58 Close your eyes… FREE PORN!!!!

  27. so what is chimping? and does kai have an instagram???????

  28. Absolutely not. His Sony may have more MegaPixels, but what matters is the quality of the lens, the optics, the glass, the size of the sensor, the lens aperture, and many, many more facts other than just the amount of MP. Seriously, go out with both cameras, shoot the exact same picture at the exact same settings, then compare them. THEN you can say what camera has better quality. Seriously, show this comment to your brother. He doesn’t know a thing about photography.

    D90>Your brother’s Sony.

  29. Rule of thirds= my best friend. If only the people I know would use it;( Oh well, their loss

  30. Très drôle et très bonne caricature ! Tellement vrai !

  31. Ahh, this is fantastic

  32. Thanks man!

  33. Absolutely not, megapixels tells you nothing more then the number of dots that make up the picture. Image quality ultimately comes down to the lens as that is the part that’s actually doing the work of focusing light. Sharpness detail and contrast come from the lens. The only significant difference between sensors is the size of each pixel, and a D90’s sensor is about 20 times the area of an average pocket camera. A camera body is just a circuit board in a box, the glass is what makes it good.

  34. hahahaa you’re funny. Great video!

  35. My brother keeps saying how his 16 megapixel sony little wimpy camera is better then my 12 megapixel Nikon D90 because his pictures are ‘better quality’, is this true?

  36. LoL 8:55!! His Eric Kim impression is beyond brilliant… BEYOND BRILLIANT!
