The Camera: the sensor – Photography Course – Lesson 6

Before the advent of digital photography the image was immpressd on film, now on the sensor, oviously they react in a different way and in both black and white an colour are different(and not better).

Let’s start saying that the most frequently used sensor in cameras are CCD and CMOS, there’s also the FOVEON currently used in cameras made by Sigma.

The resolution of a sensor is measured in megapixels.

Megapixel

Cause of misleading marketing the most of people thinks that the more the megapixels the better quality has the camera, it’s not true, a higher amount of megapixels allows, theoretically, an higher resolution that affect the printing size, but this is often limited by the optical system.

When the resolution of the optical part is lower than the sensor’s resolution you wont gain anything by increasing the number of pixels, rather, the system’s performance will get worse cause of the increased electronic noise…

There has recently been a sudden explosion of interest in the artistic yet technological hobby of photography. While lots of people enjoy the idea of photography, few really take the time to learn about it. If you need a starting point for developing your photography skills, keep reading!

If you are just starting with photography, especially if you are using an SLR camera, make sure you learn the fundamentals. There are many terms you must learn, including ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. In addition, you should also be familiar with composition, lighting and exposure. Both knowing what these terms mean and mastering the skills associated with them is what takes your photography from one level to the next.

Photography needs to be enjoyable. Photography will help you remember a certain time or event that was important and that you may want to share with others. Have a good time while you take your shots and you’ll find that the joy you feel comes through in the pictures you take.

Always be careful when packing your equipment for a trip. Take all the lenses you need and don’t forget to pack extra batteries and cleaning tools! But don’t pack too much here. Only take the equipment that you will need. Anything else runs the risk of getting lost or damaged.

For the white balance setting on your camera, set it yourself. Many people use their cameras with the auto settings on, and the camera will adjust the white balance to the setting it thinks is correct, even though it might not look the best. Yellow tints found in shots taken of scenes illuminated by incandescent bulbs can be avoided by making a change to the white balance. You can even change the whole ambiance of the picture by making a simple adjustment.

Shooting photos at night is another topic altogether. You should utilize proper lighting equipment during nighttime shoots, as natural light will be unavailable. Slow shutter speeds, artificial lighting and other features allow you to properly photograph at night.

Experiment with varieties of expressions, scale and perspective. You can turn ordinary objects into amazing photographs by changing these aspects. Bring your subject closer to the camera so that it looks larger, or move away so it looks tiny and out of place. Change things up, and create interest or humor in your photos. You will be able to take good pictures of familiar objects by working on the composition.

Edit your own photos. There are a ton of photo editing programs available. Look for a program with an unlimited number of methods to edit your existing photos. Make sure that it is simple to use.

Don’t miss out on a picture that is fantastic by staying too busy adjusting your camera’s settings. For the best photographs, don’t use the camera’s presets since this removes your options of making adjustments. Get familiar with your camera options before you start photographing, so you know which settings will suit each subject and situation.

In most instances, the subject’s eyes are looking right at the camera. For some unique pictures, try to have your subject look off the camera, have them focus on something outside the field of view of the camera. You could also have them focus on an item that is within the frame of the picture.

You need to shoot fast when you are taking a photo. The perfect moment you want to capture could be fleeting, so you have to be prepared to catch it without warning. It takes only seconds for an animal to run away or hide. People’s smiles begin to look strained after a short period of time. That cresting wave or speeding SR-71 jet fighter that seemed to appear out of nowhere isn’t going to pause while you fiddle with your flash. Adjust your settings as quickly as possible, and do your best to snap your picture while the scene still looks natural.

A lot of people have enhanced their lives through photography. However, a large number of people do not ever really master photography because they’re intimidated by all the vast amount of knowledge that is out there.
